Upload 3D Creations
Non-Conformed Wearables
In the interim, this project adds flexibility for users to upload 3D wearable assets that aren’t specifically designed to fit the Genies Avatar body. Over time, all assets will be tagged as non-conformed, meaning every wearable will be processed through the workshop portal with this classification in mind.
What key things should I consider when designing a Non-Conformed wearable?
For non-conformed assets, a few things that still need to be considered when designing are the layering system.
Although the submission process references our layering guides, it would be good to make sure we are categorizing the assets accordingly when uploading.
Check out the Layering Guides page for more information.
Using the image below as an example, the long-sleeved black shirt and the short-sleeved white shirt should NOT be tagged as "Shirt". This is because any top wearable design that you want to be fitted OVER the shirt should be tagged as "Jacket".
How do I best prepare my 3D for Non-Conformed wearables?
The submission process is quite effective at handling the majority of the modeling workload. The asset will automatically scale, conform, and refit to the Avatar.
However, incorporating a well-designed topology flow, along with extra edge loops in high-deformation areas—such as the shoulders, neck, elbows, wrists, knees, hips, ankles, fingers, and toes—would be highly beneficial. This approach will enhance flexibility and ensure smoother deformations in these critical areas.
Check out the 3D Modeling page for more information.
How do I best prepare my texture file for Non-Conformed wearables?
To achieve higher-quality results with texture files, it’s also important to prioritize UV-unwrapping, as this step is crucial in enhancing the overall quality and accuracy of the textures.
In addition, no matter what software you use for texturing, please make sure to export PNG format and 4096x4096 pixels (4k) map size.
Check out the UV-unwrapping page for more information.
Why do Bracelets, Earrings, Glasses and Masks need to be CONFORMED assets?
These asset categories are currently not supported to conform/refit to the Avatar. However, support for these categories will be added in the future.
Selecting any of the Bracelets, Earrings, Glasses and Masks categories will bypass the next field and will auto-select "Yes".
3D Creation Information
Fill in information about your 3D creation on the Workshop portal by selecting an asset type from the drop down menu and creating a unique name for your creation.
Adding description to your asset will allow in-app users to learn more about your creation. You can use this area for a short description or narrative backstory of your design.
Upload Process
Upload Files
In order to upload your creation to the Genies ecosystem, simply choose a file or drag and drop your FIVE files to the designated areas of the tool. In order to properly upload your 3D creation, The Workshop Portal system requires the following:
- 3D model file in .fbx format with the polycount lower than 7.5k triangles
- AlbedoTransparency texture map in .png format, size 4096x4096
- MetallicSmoothness texture map in .png format, size 4096x4096
- Normal texture map in .png format, size 4096x4096
- RGBAMask texture map in .png format, size 4096x4096
Please read the Wearables Check List to make sure your 3D Creation fits all the requirements of the Genies Ecosystem.
Submit for Approval
After the upload process is complete, you will see the generated preview of your asset. Please use the tools to inspect your uploaded 3D creation. Before submitting for approval, make sure the visual in the preview window is matching your desired design.
Next Steps
Automated Technical Inspection
Our system will automatically run initial technical checks upon your 3D submission. Please give the system approximately 10 minutes to process and analyze your uploaded files and get back to you.
You will receive a message on The Workshop Portal as well as an email with the status update for your 3D creation once the preview visuals are ready.
As soon as your 3D Creation passes all the initial technical checks, it will be forwarded to our team for a legal check. Please keep an eye on your asset status and emails from the Workshop project.
Rejected Creation
If your 3D Creation has a technical issue, you will receive a detailed message describing the issue. Please refer to to the Common Errors page if you need more information on the error or if you are looking for some tips on how to edit your asset.
Autorigging Magic Render
After the asset passes initial technical inspections, it will be sent through our unique autorigging pipeline and our system will generate a preview video of an avatar wearing your creation.
The video is available for you to download in the portrait (9:16) or square (1:1) format. Feel free to share this video with your friends or on your socials. Don’t forget to tag @genies for an opportunity to be reposted on our main IG or TikTok page.
Legal Inspection
One of our virtues at Genies is being one of one. That means being original in your creations in every aspect. Uniqueness will not only make you stand out as an artist, but it’s also crucial to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. In order to prevent any potential legal issues that may arise in the future, avoid using intellectual property that isn’t your own (logos, models, textures, names, etc.).
Another one of our virtues is safety. We want to encourage you to be your most authentic self, but of course please be sensitive to what could be harmful to the larger Genies community.
Read Genies Community Guidelines for more information. We’ll notify you if your creation violates any of these rules so you can adjust accordingly.
It may take up to 7 days to complete the review process. You will receive an email once your asset has been approved to be used within the Genies ecosystem!
Earn Fashion Fund
3D creations that pass creative, legal and technical inspections are eligible to be paid out through the Fashion Engagement Fund once approved and released into the Genies Ecosystem.
In acknowledgement that assets may be approved but not released until a later time, Genies will be making an advanced payment to Creators upon the approval of their first submission, which will be recoupable against future engagement payouts once the asset is released.
